Suspense in Rivers as Fubara Delays Return After Emergency Rule Ends

The political atmosphere in Rivers State remains tense and uncertain following the end of the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu. Although the directive restored Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly to their positions, the governor has yet to physically return to office. Over 10,000 Rivers State youths storm the streets waiting to welcome Governor Fubara. Fubara’s absence has left residents of the oil-rich state in suspense, with many questioning the direction of leadership and governance going forward. The situation has fueled disillusion among citizens, who expected a quick resumption of normalcy after months under a federally appointed Sole Administrator. WIKE ADDRESSES RUMORS ON HIS HEALTH

Rumours circulated (via Sahara Reporters and social media) that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike travelled to the UK for medical reasons, including a claim that he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.  On September 18, 2025, Wike publicly addressed these claims.  He said that his trip was to “take time out and relax,” not for any health emergency.  He also emphasised that each time he travels, he works — except this time he chose to go without files, implying he wanted rest.  Wike criticized the rumours: saying he didn't collapse, nor was he hospitalized in the UK; the rumors of heart failure were false.
